Tournament!
Who: Tournament contestants, organisers, random spectators, anyone who accidentally wandered in and decided to stay...
What: Beating people up in the name of the Great One!
When: Probably all day
Where: Battle Dome
Summary: The festival's yearly tradition - a tournament to determine who's the biggest badass in Luceti.
Rating: Varied, for non-lethal (...we hope) violence
The morning of the festival sees Link up bright and early, heading to the Battle Dome as soon as it's light to start the preparations for the tournament. By mid-morning, most competitors have arrived - now all that's left is to get everyone fighting!
Right - time to get combative! Please reply to the first thread with your IC sign-up (yes, pseudonyms are okay for those who want to fight ~in disguise~). Then, all you do is reply to the correct divisions and fight away! Er, I still haven't quite worked out how to score these - either play it out, work it out between the two of you, or, if you want, I can Random Number Generator it. Alternatively, if things are really tricky to determine, there's also the option of asking an unrelated third party.
The four divisions are divided thus:
Melee: Handheld, close-range weapons like swords, axes, or whips, or hand-to-hand combat.
Missile: Projectile weapons such as arrows or throwing needles.
Magic: Unarmed combat using magic as a weapon.
Mixed: Any of the above, or those that don't fit neatly into one category.
Most settings are neutral, but there's also the option for handicaps - advanced settings that make things a bit more... interesting. These will only be applied if both contestants consent to it. They are:
Melee: The ground is now covered in ice. It's not cold to the touch, but it will make things a bit more slippery!
Missile: Increased gravity. Your shots now fall short - either shoot/throw harder, or get in closer.
Magic: Set in a cage of sorts, getting knocked against the ground or the walls sends you flying in the other direction. Not too far, but mind those flailing limbs.
Mixed: Any of the above, selected by random number generator.
Your character can fight in more than one division! Let's say Link fights primarily with swords, but he also can use other weapons and a bit of magic. He would be suitable to enter Melee (using only his sword and shield) and Mixed (using whatever he wants).
Healing items are not allowed, and neither is healing via magic/powers. If the character regenerates automatically, that can't exactly be stopped, but just... go easy on it. What this basically means is that Link can't drink a potion and heal himself, and... a Pokemon with Synthesis can't heal itself like that (yes, that WAS the only example I could think of!), but Jack Harkness can pop himself back to life if he gets shot in the head.
A match is over when one party is knocked flat for five seconds or longer, is knocked unconscious, or yields to the other. As this is the Battle Dome, injuries heal automatically upon completion, the scenario ends and the unconscious party wakes up as soon as someone is knocked out, and normally-lethal blows will find themselves deflected. No stabbies.
Characters fight against everyone in the division, and whoever has the most wins is the champion of that category. Yes, it's possible to win more than one, albeit unlikely - in that case, the character would select which division they'd like to represent, and the runners-up is selected as the new champion. In case of ties, a tiebreaker match is held.
Once we have our four champions, they compete against each other - either two against two (selected randomly) with the two winners then fighting each other, two lots of one against one, with those winners fighting each other, or a free-for-all. Once the grand champion has been selected, there'll be a prize ceremony (with smaller prizes for the other three division champions), and they'll then have the opportunity to perform in an exhibition match against Link and Krizalid (as organisers/teachers) and Adell (representing the Blue Rogues). ...Hopefully, one of those three won't be the champion.
For contestants who aren't performing at that moment, or for spectators, there'll be a viewing area upstairs. Anyone want to volunteer for providing the snacks?
And this OOC note is definitely long enough, so I'll just put the sign-up here and leave it at that!

IT'S ALL OR NOTHING LUKE, LAY YOUR LIFE ON THE LINEWell no, Yuri would be rather displeased if you did thrust your sword a little too far, buddy. But after all the times they've sparred together, he's built up a great level of trust, and thus doesn't bat an eye when Luke pulls that move.... But that sure as hell doesn't mean he's going to stand still and let the rest of that technique hit. Definitely not with a hazard condition that could easily take him down on its own.
Therefore, right around the time Luke launches himself forward, Yuri jumps back a few times. In response to the Rending Thrust, Yuri swings his sword, sending out a light blue burst of energy in Luke's direction -- his Azure Edge technique.]
no subject
Now that he's further away, though, he sends a similar attack: a white burst of energy hurling along the ground towards Yuri - Demon Fist. He'll race after it when he recovers, planning on using the moment Yuri either defends or takes the hit to follow it up with a dash to his back to send flying kicks his way - Swallow Fury. If Yuri catches Luke before he can complete that last part, though, he'll just swing his sword horizontally towards him.]
no subject
... However, getting hit by that series of kicks to the back? That he cares about.
Being that the only sort of reaction Yuri could really have in time is maybe starting to turn around when he realizes what's about to happen, Swallow Fury lands with little issue, knocking Yuri up into the air and leaving him to fall back down--
--Oh. Dammit.
Congratulations, Luke -- You aren't the first one to get hit by the hazard set up for this match! Even though he tries to right himself while in the air, once Yuri hits the ground, the hazard activates, jolting him back into the air and forcing him to crash down a lot harder than he should have.
... That actually hurt more than getting hit by that technique did. Geez. However, he's certainly not down and out yet -- he's trying to force himself back to his feet pretty quickly.]

Yuri getting himself back up would be a huge window of opportunity... However, Luke doesn't want this fight to end, not because of some stupid room. He wants this to be about skill. Plus, it's just fun to fight with Yuri.
So, instead of taking advantage of it, Luke swings his sword through the air and grins, calling out to him while he waits.]
What, had enough already? You're not going to let this room beat you, right?
no subject
[Well damn, that was embarrassing. But don't worry, Luke -- Yuri will see to it that you have your chance to play with the hazard as well.
As soon as he's on his feet, he's charging right at Luke, sword held at a low angle. However, when he's within range, he won't be swinging it at Luke normally, or anything along those lines. Not at all.
He'll suddenly speed up drastically, to the point of seemingly vanishing, in an effort to try to move behind Luke and swing at him from behind -- his Ghost Wolf technique.]
no subject
But as soon as that thought went into his mind and only gave him enough time to turn slightly behind him, the Ghost Wolf technique hit, and Luke finds himself stumbling right to the- Oh, dammit, no - Luke tries to stop himself, but he goes right into the-
-wall.
Consequently, the hazard activates, and Luke goes flying in the other direction, spinning slightly in the air thanks to his stumble, and lands hard on his back.
... Ow. Like Yuri, that ended up hurting more than the arte itself. Still, Luke rolls himself back onto his shoulders and springs himself back up to his feet. His wings shake themselves out, and he holds his sword to his side again, expecting Yuri to get himself ready to attack in those few seconds it took for Luke to embarrass himself and recover.]
1/2
Yuri is getting the hell out of the way. He does not feel like having anyone get flung full force directly at his face, thank you.]
no subject
Y'know, I don't think that wall likes you all that much. You might not wanna try hugging it again.
[Har har. But as soon as Luke's up and on his feet again, Yuri's coming at him once again. No mercy, man.
... Except, he does give a little bit of it by having a horizontal swing at the ready, instead of pulling off some mean technique while he's still trying to get his ducks in a row again. He wants to have as much fun with this as he can for as long as he can.]
no subject
[It's a good thing Yuri went with the slice instead of an arte, as Luke's still trying to get all the stars out of his vision. He meets that swing easily enough with a block, and he blinks hard once and gives his head a little shake.
There we go. He's good now. Luke holds that position for a few seconds before he swings his blade to throw Yuri's off, then counters with a vertical strike of his own.]
no subject
However, instead of trying to mirror what Luke just did, he tries something a bit different. It might not work, but hey, it's worth a shot!
So, while keeping his blade in that same defensive position, Yuri suddenly shoves it forward, in an effort to knock Luke off balance. However, considering he smirked a moment before he does this, that may have been a tell of sorts ...]
