Tournament!
Who: Tournament contestants, organisers, random spectators, anyone who accidentally wandered in and decided to stay...
What: Beating people up in the name of the Great One!
When: Probably all day
Where: Battle Dome
Summary: The festival's yearly tradition - a tournament to determine who's the biggest badass in Luceti.
Rating: Varied, for non-lethal (...we hope) violence
The morning of the festival sees Link up bright and early, heading to the Battle Dome as soon as it's light to start the preparations for the tournament. By mid-morning, most competitors have arrived - now all that's left is to get everyone fighting!
Right - time to get combative! Please reply to the first thread with your IC sign-up (yes, pseudonyms are okay for those who want to fight ~in disguise~). Then, all you do is reply to the correct divisions and fight away! Er, I still haven't quite worked out how to score these - either play it out, work it out between the two of you, or, if you want, I can Random Number Generator it. Alternatively, if things are really tricky to determine, there's also the option of asking an unrelated third party.
The four divisions are divided thus:
Melee: Handheld, close-range weapons like swords, axes, or whips, or hand-to-hand combat.
Missile: Projectile weapons such as arrows or throwing needles.
Magic: Unarmed combat using magic as a weapon.
Mixed: Any of the above, or those that don't fit neatly into one category.
Most settings are neutral, but there's also the option for handicaps - advanced settings that make things a bit more... interesting. These will only be applied if both contestants consent to it. They are:
Melee: The ground is now covered in ice. It's not cold to the touch, but it will make things a bit more slippery!
Missile: Increased gravity. Your shots now fall short - either shoot/throw harder, or get in closer.
Magic: Set in a cage of sorts, getting knocked against the ground or the walls sends you flying in the other direction. Not too far, but mind those flailing limbs.
Mixed: Any of the above, selected by random number generator.
Your character can fight in more than one division! Let's say Link fights primarily with swords, but he also can use other weapons and a bit of magic. He would be suitable to enter Melee (using only his sword and shield) and Mixed (using whatever he wants).
Healing items are not allowed, and neither is healing via magic/powers. If the character regenerates automatically, that can't exactly be stopped, but just... go easy on it. What this basically means is that Link can't drink a potion and heal himself, and... a Pokemon with Synthesis can't heal itself like that (yes, that WAS the only example I could think of!), but Jack Harkness can pop himself back to life if he gets shot in the head.
A match is over when one party is knocked flat for five seconds or longer, is knocked unconscious, or yields to the other. As this is the Battle Dome, injuries heal automatically upon completion, the scenario ends and the unconscious party wakes up as soon as someone is knocked out, and normally-lethal blows will find themselves deflected. No stabbies.
Characters fight against everyone in the division, and whoever has the most wins is the champion of that category. Yes, it's possible to win more than one, albeit unlikely - in that case, the character would select which division they'd like to represent, and the runners-up is selected as the new champion. In case of ties, a tiebreaker match is held.
Once we have our four champions, they compete against each other - either two against two (selected randomly) with the two winners then fighting each other, two lots of one against one, with those winners fighting each other, or a free-for-all. Once the grand champion has been selected, there'll be a prize ceremony (with smaller prizes for the other three division champions), and they'll then have the opportunity to perform in an exhibition match against Link and Krizalid (as organisers/teachers) and Adell (representing the Blue Rogues). ...Hopefully, one of those three won't be the champion.
For contestants who aren't performing at that moment, or for spectators, there'll be a viewing area upstairs. Anyone want to volunteer for providing the snacks?
And this OOC note is definitely long enough, so I'll just put the sign-up here and leave it at that!

[He's going to have to check himself out after this - instead, he skates backwards and around, circling out so that they both have more space. Then it's another rapid charge, shield raised and sword ready for another blow.]
((OOC: Probably should have asked this earlier! How do you want this to end?))

[ooc: Good question! I'm not sure how Link's talent compares, but in both this au and in reality, Terra's pretty experienced with the sword. She is/was a trained soldier, though if you think Link could best her, especially since he has a shield and she doesn't, I'll go with it.]

[They're a little too close to try for another run-up - instead, he'll shove the shield forward while swinging the sword low, aiming for her legs. If he can make her lose her footing, it'll help enormously.]
((OOC: Hmm... Link's part of the Village Watch and Blue Rogues in the AU, and has been in a lot of battles against the Third Party, so I guess that's sort of the same as being a soldier? They'd probably be pretty evenly matched - Link does have the shield, but Terra is pretty fast and could gain an advantage that way. Want to try a RNG? XD))

[ooc: RNG, it is! Go for it. :)]

((OOC: Iiiiit's Terra! Best way to defeat Link is by playing to his confident side - let him believe that he has an advantage, then strike back hard and aim for a ring-out.))

[Of course, he's so focused on his plan that he fails to notice her own - when her own attack comes, he snaps the shield up in a hurry, trying to stop his own momentum. Too bad the impact does the opposite, sending him straight for an edge. For a moment, he teeters - then gravity overtakes things and it's all over.]
[...He hadn't seen that coming.
